According to Spanish news agency El Nacional, Lionel Messi intends to terminate his contract with Inter Miami and leave in December 2025, after both parties officially expire.
Messi is said to be making a free transfer to Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys, where the striker played as a young star from 1995 to 2000.
In early 2016, Lionel Messi also announced that he was keen to join Newell’s Old Boys in the future. He told Spanish newspaper El Planeta Urbano: “If I go back to Argentina tomorrow, which I really want to do, the club I will play for will be Newell’s.”
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has so far scored 27 goals and provided 17 assists in 32 games across all competitions with Inter Miami.
Most recently, Messi was given a 5.8 rating by Sport Dunia after Inter Miami drew 1-1 with New York City FC in MLS Round 30 yesterday, September 21.
The Argentine striker played the entire 1-1 draw against New York City FC of Inter Miami, but did not shine as the fans and coaching staff expected.
Messi’s only notable move in this match was a pass out to the left flank, setting up Jordi Alba to cross inside for Leonardo Campana to open the scoring in the 75th minute.
